The People

Árni Daníel Júlíusson is a research specialist at the University of Iceland. His primary research interests and expertise lie in agricultural and environmental history. Árni completed his doctorate in history at the University of Copenhagen in 1997. His two most recent projects are the ‘Two Valleys’ project (2021–2023) and ‘Transice’ (2022-2025), both funded by the Icelandic Research Fund (Rannís).

Elín Ósk Hreiðarsdóttir is an archaeologist at the Institute of Archaeology, Iceland. She completed her MA in archaeology at the University of Iceland in 2005. Her primary research interests and expertise include archaeological surveys, cultural landscapes, Viking Age beads, and material culture.

Oscar Aldred is a landscape archaeologist at the Cambridge Archaeological Unit, Department of Archaeology, University of Cambridge. He is a member of the University of Cambridge’s McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research and the Centre for Landscape Regeneration. Oscar completed his PhD at the University of Iceland in 2012. His primary research interests are in past and present landscapes, human-environment entanglements, and mobility.

Gylfi Helgason is a researcher at the Institute of Archaeology, Iceland. Gylfi completed his MA at the University of Leicester in 2020. His research interests focus on the Icelandic landscape, particularly through investigation of seasonal or marginal places.

Óskar Guðlaugsson

Guðrún Alda Gísladóttir is a researcher at the Institute of Archaeology, Iceland. Guðrún completed her PhD at Durham University in 2025. Guðrún has worked at the Institute since 2001 and has contributed to a wide array of artefact analyses and fieldwork.

Pablo Barruezo-Vaquero is currently a Master’s student in Viking and Medieval studies at the University of Iceland.
